Province:
Southern Africa
Type Locality and Naming
Column: Karoo Basin Cape Fold Belt
Lithology and Thickness
Katberg Fm:
LITHOLOGY = Sandstones dominated by upper flow regime plane beds with heavy mineral laminations. Mud pebble and glaubule conglomerate lenses are common. Large brown weathering spherical calcareous concretions of early diagenetic origin are characteristic of the sandstones throughout the formation.
CALIBRATION = 20% up in the Scythian.
REFERENCE = Fig. 2. from Catuneanu, O., et al.,"The Karoo basins of south-central Africa", Journal of African Earth Sciences 43 (2005), 211-254
